We have been asked by our client to identify a best Oracle Analyst/Architect for Boston, MA location.

Our client is a highly regarded company in the financial services.

 

Title: Oracle Analyst / Architect

Location: Boston, MA

Type:  6 months (Extendable long term)

 

Keys to this Position

1.  8+ years of IT experience with at least 3 years working as an Oracle Database Analyst / Architect. This is a hands-on role that will work closely with Development Managers to ensure that their applications are running efficiently and are in compliance with the existing data standards.

2. Strong technical skills in Oracle database design, analysis, implementation and tuning (currently in 11G).

3. Oracle RAC 11G experience is required.

4. Strong analytic ability in Database configuration, Data Architecture, Data Integration, Data Distribution, Data Quality and Data Accessibility.

5. Working knowledge in various database design schemes, 3NF (Third Normal Form), dimensional and hybrid. Capable to design conceptual, logical and physical data models. Solid experience in ER/Studio or comparable modeling tools.

6. Experience in financial trading systems geared towards high volume and low latency requirements. Familiarity with the information life cycle of Equity and/or Fixed Income trading data, a nice to hav.

7. Hands-on experience in SQL and PL/SQL coding. Familiar with the technology and methodology of database performance tuning. Performance Tuning experience is required.

8. Exposure to Next Generation data platforms such as cloud based data services (like AWS) and NOSQL databases etc. in a heterogeneous environment.

9. Strong personal skills, ability to articulate and influence.

10. A well-round Database Analyst who can demonstrate analysis and problem solving skills in all areas of application data services.

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years progressive experience in Database analysis and Data Architecture disciplines, i.e., data architecture, database management and performance tuning.
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering data-centric financial solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Comprehensive understating of the financial services industry required. The ideal candidate will also have knowledge of diverse asset classes (equities, fixed income, derivatives) data lifecycle.
  • Solid understanding of transactional and dimensional database systems, including OLTP, ODS, and data warehouse / federated data marts etc.
  • Working experience in RDBMS, at least 5 year experience in Oracle databases.
  • Deep understanding of ILM methodology and technology in Financial Services.
  • Working experience of a variety of tools, technologies and capabilities relating to the creation, dissemination and calculation of financial-related data. Hands-on experience in ETL, CDC and MDM tools and technology.
  • Working experience in developing data movement/ data integration standards and architecting scalable service oriented solutions.
  • Working knowledge in Enterprise Service bus (ESB) tools is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to explain complex technical issues in plain English, and document the Data Architecture for a diverse audiences.
  • Self-directed and able to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Self-motivated entrepreneurial personality.
  • Bachelor's degree in software or systems engineering, computer science, information systems management or the equivalent. Masters is a plus.

The Position:

Job Description                    

We are looking for a Database Analyst / Architect for the Order Management and Compliance Systems in the Financial Trading domain.

The successful candidate will work with a team of investment technologists to deliver data related solutions for trading applications group wide.  On a day-to-day basis, s/he will work with business stake holders and application developers to understand data access requirements. Will analyze and mitigate issues in data availability, data integrity, data quality and other data related areas. Will analyze database and query performance, provide tuning options.  Will assist Lead Data Architect to improve and enhance data centric and mission critical application systems.  Will reverse engineer and improve existing data models and design new data model.

The candidate should have a proven track record in developing and delivering Data Strategies in subject areas related to Trading and Investment Management.  Working experience in Data Modeling, Data Design, Data Governance, Investment Management processes, systems, quality assurance and an awareness of Market and Reference Data landscape are critical. Ability to acquire knowledge and grasp new skills on-the-fly is essential to success in this role.

Focus on delivery and attention to detail will be some of the key attributes for this role. Ability in problem resolving is regularly required and the candidate should be adept in navigating within a mission critical fast-paced environment.

                                             

Job Responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of Lead Data Architect and Application team leaders, analyze gaps in the Data Models, gain deep understanding of financial services requirements in high-volume and low-latency systems.
  • Assist Lead Data Architect to refine, enhance and evolve the Trading Data Architecture. Reverse engineer, revise and maintain logical and physical data models.
  • Analyze and address challenges in Data Distribution, Data Integration, Data Replication and other strategic areas.
  • Analyze and improve Data Accessibility, Data Integrity, Data Quality and Data Access.
  • Monitor and analyze production database performance. Work with DBA and application teams in analyzing and addressing performance issues.
  • Analyze and research data production issues. Recommend enhancements and solutions. Work with DBA and appropriate teams on continuous improvement.
  • Work with our internal clients to proactively identify and prioritize opportunities for new/improved capabilities.
  • Stay abreast of the "state of the art" as it relates data architecture throughout the investment industry
  • In collaboration with the application teams, participate in defining, maintain and reinforcing various data standards.
